Without local communities much of the sport we love would not be possible. And at the Leicester Mercury Sports Awards a special award will be presented to an individual who has inspired their community with their dedication to regional sport.
The ‘Community Award’ is one of 14 awards up for grabs on the night and will be presented to an individual who has clearly demonstrated how they’ve brought a community together through their work in sport.
Giving their backing to this award as a category sponsor is leading law firm Smith Partnership. The firm, who has offices in Leicester, provide a wide range of services to both individuals and businesses across the Midlands.
Alison Neate, Head of Professional Liability and a Managing Partner at Smith Partnership was keen to highlight why they made the decision to sponsor this particular category.
“We are proud to sponsor the Leicester Mercury Sports Awards and feel that sponsoring the Community Award best reflected our commitment to the local area,” she said.
“For us it’s about shining the spotlight on unsung sporting heroes who have made a real difference to the community of Leicester, and this is our way of doing so.”
Nominations for the event are now closed with an independent panel of judges currently making their decisions on who will be the chosen three finalists and eventual winner will be.
Alison explained what type of qualities the winner will demonstrate.
“We believe anybody nominated for this award will need to show a commitment to supporting others, going the extra mile to give others a chance to use sport to enhance their lives,” she said.
“They will also have shown a ‘never say die’ attitude, a willingness to think differently and the ability to reach out and work with others to achieve their sporting goals.”
Smith Partnership has continued to enhance their offering in recent years and Alison discussed how they’re looking to continue this in 2020.
“Smith Partnership is in the enviable position of being a leading full-service law firm with offices across the East Midlands,” she said.
“We will be working hard to help our success help others on their journey, supporting Leicestershire businesses to achieve their 2020 ambitions through personal, proactive and expert legal support.”
The Leicester Mercury Sport’s Awards will mark their return at Welford Road Stadium on Thursday 16th January where finalists will go head-to-head for one of the night’s coveted prizes.
