Behind every great team there is a top manager leading them to success and every individual athlete requires a coach to spur them on.
The Leicester Mercury Sports Awards know just how important the role of a manager/coach is and at this year’s ceremony they’ll be rewarding the region’s very best with a very special award.
The ‘Manager/Coach of the Year’ award recognises an individual who has inspired and motivated their team or an individual to great success. The winner of this award will have made a major contribution to the lives of the people they’ve coached, and all nominees will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of last year’s winner Rob Paternostro.
Head coach of basketball side the Leicester Riders, Rob has managed the team for over a decade being named BBL Coach of the Year on five occasions.
Each of the night’s 14 awards has a category sponsor with leading accountancy firm BGS Accounting giving their backing to this award.
Headed up by Gurbinder Singh and Bhavesh Shah, the Leicester based business look to go beyond the needs of a standard accountancy firm. Understanding that communication is key, they cut out all the financial jargon that many firms use across their offering.
Gurbinder highlighted why they made the decision to become category sponsors.
“We wanted to be part of the awards as it recognises sporting success within our region. Being avid sport fans and being born and bred in Leicester we have grown up with the sporting achievements of the city and wanted to be a part of this.”
Once all the nominees have been submitted it will be up to an impartial panel of judges to decide on the category winner, but Bhavesh was keen to point out what he expects to see from the award winners.
“We are looking for someone who is an inspirational leader, who has excelled in motivating and developing their team to sporting success,” he said.
“Sport is similar to business, in that it takes hard work, dedication and commitment to succeed.”
Taking place at Welford Road Stadium on Thursday 16th January, the night will see amateurs, professionals, teams and clubs rewarded for their success over the past year.
And, as well as backing these awards, BGS are also looking to enhance their offering in the next year in a number of ways.
Gurbinder explained more: “Being a company of only 18 months old, we are looking to grow and enhance our offering by continuing to provide a great service at a great price,” he said.
“Taking inspiration from great leaders will guide us through the challenges we will face in growing our business further.”
