The Leicester Mercury Sports Awards are renowned for not only celebrating sports stars competing at the top of their game, but also for shining a light on young sporting men and women who look set to become household names in the future.
The ‘Young Sportswoman of the Year’ award highlights a sporting star who has made huge strides in their chosen discipline in the last 12 months. Aged between 13-18 this young sports woman will have demonstrated dedication, a strong work ethic and remarkable talent in their sport and this award will surely mark the first of many.
Giving their backing to this award is Elonex who have been announced as category sponsor. Elonex are a leading outdoor media company who are responsible for over 3,000 digital outdoor advertising screens across the UK. For more than 30 years they’ve provided digital billboards on roadsides, in shopping centres, at sporting stadiums and many more locations helping to support a whole host of big brands.
Adam Stockton is the business’ Managing Director and he explained why the decided to become category sponsors.
He said: “Having enjoyed a long association with sport, Elonex believe this category at the Leicester Mercury Sports Awards is the perfect opportunity to recognise and applaud great sporting achievement among our up and coming stars of the future.”
Nominations for this category and all 14 of the night’s coveted awards are now open and it will be down to an expert panel of judges to decide on the three finalists as well as the eventual winner of each award.
Despite this, Adam highlighted what his business is expecting to see from the winners of the ‘Young Sportswoman of the Year’ award.
“We're excited about seeing all the entries and know it will be tough to choose a winner,” he said.
“However, the young woman who emerges on top will have shown incredible commitment to their sport and been determined to improve performances in order to shine amid fierce competition.”
He continued: “Sport and business have many things in common, including the qualities and skills required to really succeed. Working in both sectors, at Elonex we know it takes more than just high skill levels to get on and really stand out. Ability must be backed up with total commitment, a drive to always improve and the mindset to perform to the highest level on the most important of stages.”
